CNC OPERATOR / SKILLED OPERATIVE

Job Summary

Responsible for the setup and operation of one or more of the CNC Laser, Plasma and Press brake machines. Assist other CNC operators with daily duties including area housekeeping, maintenance, general stock control and materials stacking.

Peripheral Duties

  • Interact with organisational team members and other departments in a professional manner.
  • Comply with the company management system requirements for quality and health and safety.
  • Take reasonable care of own and others safety, co-operate with manager/supervisor in complying with statutory health & safety duties, to report incidents, accidents, faults etc.
  • Participate in all training initiatives specific to the post holder’s duties.
  • Undertake such other duties as maybe reasonably requested by senior management.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of multiple brands of CNC machines such as Amada, Mazak, Bystronic and Hypertherm.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Familiarity with sheet metal flat patterns.
  • Experienced in the inspection of flat laser or plasma cut parts using precision inspection equipment.
  • Working knowledge of NC (Numerical Control) machine code.
  • Possess some knowledge of, and ability to identify, fabrication industry metals.
  • Work experience in general welding/fabrication/machine shop.
  • High School Education.

Core Responsibilities

  • Perform daily machine pre-checks, start up, operation and shutdown procedures on CNC cutting and bending machines.
  • Complete tasks in a productive manner ensuring production schedule is adhered to.
  • Liaise with team members in the implementation of stock control procedures.
  • Load and unload own materials for production and assist team members with same when production requires additional effort to maintain work throughput.
  • Understand drawings and work to exact specification and tolerances.
  • Complete de-burring and finishing of components as required.
  • Perform operational maintenance and cleaning of machinery and equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations, maintaining peak operating performance.
  • Maintain good housekeeping in accordance with company standards.
  • Keep maintenance records/logbooks up-to-date and report equipment deficiencies in a timely manner.
  • Complete final inspection of works.
  • Package completed works in preparation for delivery to customer
  • Sign-off, and handover paperwork in accordance with company standards and procedures.
  • Arrive to work, meetings, appointments, and other work-related functions on time and as scheduled.

Equipment, Machinery & Physical Requirements

  • CNC Laser &Plasma Machines, Overhead Crane, Angle Grinder, Belt Linishers, Vertical Drills, Press brake, Guillotine, Forklift, Pallet Truck and Hand Tools.
  • Lifting up to 25kg regularly and 35kg occasionally, pushing, pulling, standing for long periods of time, manual dexterity, visual acuity manufacturing environment; may be exposed to loud noises, changing temperatures, machinery with moving parts, and exotic materials.

The Package

  • Hourly Rate negotiable depending on experience
  • 4 day working week Mon-Thurs 7am – 5.15pm (39hours)
  • Overtime when required
