Hillcrest Housing Association set out to provide affordable rental accommodation in the heart of Dundee. The development aimed to blend modern architectural aesthetics with practical urban living solutions.
The project features a Corten screen with bronze-coloured mesh that incorporates abstract public artwork. This structure includes a mild steel support frame and integrated openable screens, providing access to a bin store and bicycle store.
The artwork includes reference to The Great Fire of Dundee. This is a fire that broke out in 1906 within Trades Lane and was one of the most destructive fires within Dundee. This left a significant mark on the city’s past.
Today, artwork stands in its place, commemorating the event.
